Skin in autumn: a field guide
Shorter days, central heating and wind. How to adjust before your skin complains.

7 min read

Autumn arrives on skin before it arrives on the calendar. The first cold mornings, the first evening with the heating on, and suddenly your usual routine feels thin.
Watch for tightness
Tightness after cleansing is the first sign. Switch to an oil cleanser, or simply use less of your current one and rinse with lukewarm, not hot, water.
Add, don’t replace
There is no need to overhaul everything. Add a few drops of face oil on top of your moisturiser at night, and keep a balm close for lips and the edges of the nose.
Give it two weeks. Skin adapts to seasons more gracefully when you meet it halfway.
